For those of us binge-watching Games of Thrones and Insecure, it’s no wonder that our minds tend to race at work seeking some form of entertainment. Enter podcasts. If you’re late to the wave, fret not, here’s five podcasts to get you started on your newest addiction.
The Read. For those of us struggling through our day jobs, this is your revival. Kid Fury and Crissle are literally your two friends that tell you about yourself while cracking a joke and motivating you all at the same time. Episodes run between and hour and a half to two hours, but once you get accustomed to this podcast you’ll wish it was longer.
Black Girl Podcast. Another podcast that makes you feel like you’re having a conversation with long-time friends, Black Girl Podcast is a necessity. All five (yes, five) of the hosts on this show add unique perspectives on navigating adulthood while still maintaining healthy personal lives and thriving careers in the media industry. The BGP hosts consistently manage to relate to listeners and challenge them to new perspectives they wouldn’t normally consider. It’s safe to say, after your first BGP episode, you’ll feel a part of the sisterhood.
S-Town. The producers of Serial and This American Life have produced the beautifully crafted and mind-rattling S-Town. Although this is a seven-part series, the aftermath of listening to S-Town will change the way you view our evolving world. S-Town takes a look into a small, virtually unknown, rural Alabama town and somehow forces its listeners to see a piece of themselves hidden within the mystery.
Death, Sex, and Money. If nothing else, listen to Death, Sex & Money: In New Orleans. Host, Anna Sale does an amazing job telling the stories of five individuals 10 years after Hurricane Katrina. I don’t want to give too much away, but have some tissue by your side while listening.
Lip Service. This podcast will be your newest guilty pleasure. Breakfast Club host, Angela Yee, along with Stefanie Santiago and GiGi Maguire get into the details of sex and take the liberty of interviewing celebrities that questions we want to know. Even if you’re not a hypersexual individual, who wouldn’t want to hear Trey Songz detail his heyday of sexcapades?
